Got New Eyeglasses? 4 Tips To Help You Properly Care For Them

After careful thought and consideration, you finally decided on the right pair of eyeglasses for your face, personality, and character. You chose a pair of eyeglasses that frame your face effortlessly, and a pair of eyeglasses in a color or pattern that expresses your personality perfectly. Once they are ready for you to take home, you need to make sure that you take care of them properly so that they last for as long as possible. Since you are a new owner and caretaker of eyeglasses, here are four tips to taking care of them:

Tip #1: Always Rinse First

You will find that dirt and dust particles are constantly getting on your eyeglasses. In order to see, you will need to wipe and clean them. Before you do that, though, you will first need to rinse them off with a little bit of water. If you fail to do this, the dirt and dust particles, which are abrasive, could scratch your lenses as you wipe them.

Tip #2: Only Use Special Cleansers

If you decide to use a chemical to clean your eyeglasses, make sure that the chemical you are using is designed specifically for eyeglass lenses. You never want to use household cleaners, such as Windex, as these may contain ammonia or other harmful chemicals that could damage your eyeglass lenses.

Tip #3: Air Dry When Possible

If you have the time, let your eyeglasses air dry. This will help prevent unnecessary scratches and damage from occurring to your lenses. If you are unable to take the time to set your eyeglasses down to air dry, then make sure that you only use a clean, soft, lint-free cloth to wipe them down.

You should never use tissue, paper towels or napkins to dry them. While these may be soft for your skin, their surfaces are textured and can scratch the lenses. You should also avoid using your shirt, even if it is 100-percent cotton, as the fibers in your shirt can cause scratches to develop.

Tip #4: Store Your Glasses Properly

When you are not wearing your eyeglasses, it is important that you store them properly. This is so that they don't accumulate dirt and dust and so that they are protected from getting bent, broken, or scratched.

Many people don't want big, bulky eyeglass cases, which is understandable. If this sounds like you, there are many sleeker, more compact cases available. There are also microfiber pouches available that are perfect for your nightstand or office desk, which is great for reading glasses that aren't worn all the time.
