Eye Care Tips And Simple Advice

If you don't take some simple steps to keep your eyes looking and feeling great, then they can end up itchy, red, swollen, tired and you can even contract an illness in or through them. The information provided to you here will help you to keep your eyes in good shape:

Avoid touching your eyes – You want to avoid touching your eyes as much as possible. Each time you touch them, there is the chance of getting something in them from your fingertips. Also, if you touch them with dirty hands, you can transmit an illness in them, one common illness people are known for getting in their eyes is conjunctivitis, commonly referred to as pink eye. You can also catch colds and other illnesses this way. If you have to put your contacts in or touch your eye for any other reason, always make sure you have freshly washed your hands and that they don't have lint on them from a towel.

Choose what makeup you use carefully – Never use someone else's eye makeup and never let them use yours. Also, if you notice a package looks tampered with in the store for eye makeup, buy a package that is obviously unopened. When you use eye makeup someone else has used, it puts you at risk of catching eye infections and other illnesses. Also, you should replace your regular eye makeup every few months. If you have just got over conjunctivitis or another type of eye condition, this is also another time when you want to throw out your old eye makeup and buy new.

Wear the correct lenses for the occasion – If going outside on a sunny day, protect your eyes from the sun by wearing sunglasses with UV protection. If you are going to be playing a sport where you may take a hit to your eye, then wear the correct helmet with eye protection. If you are doing anything that leaves your eyes at risk of debris blowing in them, such as weeding, sawing or sanding, then be sure you put on a pair of safety goggles. If you will be going under water in a pool and opening your eyes, then wear swimming goggles. Also, wear your prescription glasses as you have been directed by your optometrist.

Know when to get an eye exam – You should have an annual eye exam. You should also have one anytime you feel there has been a change in your vision or even if you have scratched, injured or irritated your eye. You want to be cautious and make sure you aren't suffering from an injury that should be treated properly.
